|Biography: Growing up in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, Doug Hamer began playing guitar and writing music in his early teens. His early musical influences were Chet Atkins, the Beatles, Paul Simon, Jimi Hendrix, Todd Rundgren and Pentangle. He studied classical music, composition, and music theory at Olympic and WWSU, with his later influences including J.S. Bach, Bola Sete, John Renbourn, Lenny Breau and Ralph Towner.
Doug Hamer is an accomplished finger-style guitarist and melodic composer. It is often said that he literally paints his music with color, texture and the many moods of nature. His life interests include a passion for horticuluture, his wife and bestfriend; Childrens book Illustrator, Bonnie Hamer, guitar collecting, landscaping, hiking, and photography.
Doug still performs in the greater Seattle area doing fund-raising events for a variety of charities, with one of his favorite musical highlights being his featured appearance on KCTS TV, a PBS station in Seattle, Washington. Recently, Doug's CD "Rainforest Suite", came in at number 11 on Irelands's Top New Age album playlist for 2005.
With his love of nature and his celtic roots apparent in his compositions, Doug's listening audience often finds his timeless music both relaxing and inspiring.
Acoustic Journal has truly been a musical journey, a special voyage of the heart to places and experiences that have left an indelible impression ont the aritists soul. Every composition is intended to carry the listener across time, across mountains and oceans through a wide array of emotions. Each original piece represents a memory and is intended to capture an impression of a special moment in time.
This project is purely Doug doing what he loves best. It is comprised soley of his original melodies and arrangements while playing his beloved Martin OM-42 guitar and as such this album gives the listener an intimate glimpse into the very heart of the writer and guitar-stylist. He considers music to be one of life's greatest Blessings and each song he has written to be a gift. Growing up surrounded by the coastal mountains and waters of Puget Sound, his writing and even his playing style has invariably been influenced by the beauty of his suroundings. The texture, mood and flow of his compositions reflect his love of nature and gratitude for our creator. Relax and enjoy the journey...
