Description: Rock/Pop/Soul from Los Angeles based Singer/Songwriter Karolyn Marie Roberts
Biography: Whoever believes that dreams don’t come true, has never met Karolyn Marie Roberts. Singer, Songwriter, (with over 300 songs to her credit) Poet, Writer and Entrepreneur (CEO of Los Angeles based TEAsigns, a woman’s and children’s clothing line), Karolyn is a Renaissance Woman for a new generation of women. Born and raised in suburban Southern California, Karolyn knew early that she wanted to sing. In fact, it was sometime between watching Annie at the age of 5, and seeing Madonna’s ‘Lucky Star’ video when she was 6 that she decided that she wanted to perform. It would be an uphill battle over the years, but a battle that would help mold the woman and the artist she is today. Raised as an only child in the Los Angeles suburb of Valencia, Karolyn spent much of her childhood dreaming of life outside Valencia (and the confides of the conservative home she grew up in: Dad was a Deputy Sheriff, mom was a homemaker). She started recording demos at 16 and playing Los Angeles coffeehouses and small clubs in her late teens through early twenties. It was also around this time when her writing would take a more dark and confessional turn in the style of Fiona Apple, Tori Amos and Alanis Morrissette. Making all the mistakes that girls make during those years would lead to writing dozens of songs that included fan favorites ‘Desired,’ ‘Jezebel,’ ‘The Abyss’ and ‘The Virgin and the Whore’ (Secret Track). In her mid 20’s, her music would start to take yet another turn, only this time a much more positive one. The once dark rock songs were suddenly replaced by more positive Pop/Rock classics like ‘The Best’ and ‘I Just Wanna Be Loved,’ co-written with Nashville songwriter Dave Tough. The powerful soul ballad ‘Move Through’ would get some impressive accompaniment when Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame Alumni’s: Drummer Steve Ferrone (Tom Petty, Eric Clapton) and Bassist Ron Blair (Tom Petty, Stevie Nicks) sat in on the song. As she enters her late 20’s and gears up for releasing new material, Roberts has found a new appreciation for life. Her most recent work has gone in a more inspirational direction, taking on a major gospel and soul influence. Such gospel flavored gems as ‘Begin,’ ‘What I’ve Learned at 26’ and ‘If You Love Someone’ have taken her songwriting to a whole new level. But Roberts proves that she still has a sense of humor and still has the balls to speak her mind with the rebellious rockers ‘Kiss Your Own Ass (You Should Be So Lucky To Kiss Mine)’ ‘Young, Awesome and Beautiful’ (which could easily become the anthem for young women everywhere) and the bluesy mid life crisis anthem ‘50 Going On 20’ about a middle aged man who moves out to Los Angeles for “hot babes and sun.” Now don’t think that Roberts is satisfied just as a singer/songwriter&In 2005, Roberts launched Los Angeles based TEAsigns, which produces ‘TEAshirts’ (women’s t-shirt line), ‘I’m A Lil’ TEApot’ (children’s t-shirt line), ‘TEAjeweled’ (matching jewelry line), “The TEAroom’ (home décor line) and “TEAbags’ (matching bag line). Each of the products feature positive messages of following your dreams and believing in yourself. Roberts launched the company to teach women and children self-esteem and encourage the world to live their dreams. Today, Karolyn Marie Roberts emerges a woman. Reflecting on where she’s come from, where she’s been and the even more amazing path that lies before her. See more info http://www.karolynmarieroberts.com
