|Biography: KILTERGREY BIOGRAPHY
KilterGrey the band represents two ideas; one is Kilter and the other is Grey. Kilter is the part that holds everything in order while Grey teeters on the edge of chaos. The grey finds itself in the written words and the order is expressed by the emotion in our voice. The two of them unite to produce a sound that people connect with quite naturally. This is the genius of KilterGrey.
The only reason we exist as a band is to share our feelings with others in hopes that there might be a connection. Our songs are habitually melancholy and soul searching; some have been described as haunting. When people hear our music, a piece of them can relate to our message and they find themselves singing along to music that has always existed in their soul. We pride ourselves on strong vocals and substantial lyrics.
KilterGrey is four friends from incredibly different backgrounds using natural talents to convey a message. Thomas Rennaker grew up on a farm and competed with 5 sisters and 3 brothers in order to be heard. His voice is strong and unique. He can sing high and low and is able to express the full range of sentiment that is KilterGrey. Travis Benedict is from Salt Lake City, Utah. He plays bass and shares in the writing of the lyrics. Travis or “WilliE” teeters on grey and sifts deep meaningful words from this dark chaotic life. KilterGrey is an ordered greyness and a key element to our structure and our form is Dana Deignan. He hails from Massachusetts and traded in the East Coast for a throne in the middle of KilterGrey. As we rally around him, he funnels the 4 of us into 1. Scott Walker is from Portland, Oregon. He finds himself stuck, along with his guitar and keyboard, in this band addicted to something he cannot describe. Scott is structured and educated in his music, yet he is able to add to the full grey scale of emotion.
We have a dream that is conveyed in our songs. We do not play music to make noise, we play because it empowers and disturbs us. It is a release that we cannot find elsewhere. It is a disassociation of self, family, and society, for universal understanding. We wish to distribute our scars and our happiness to everyone willing to listen.
KilterGrey has been playing shows together for 8 years and new songs are continually finding the surface. KilterGrey is currently seeking representation and a recording contract.
